FAQ

What programs will be offered?

Surviving Strong is open to suggestions.  This is your group.  Check our calendar for any upcoming events.  We have regular running groups and various seminars covering various exercise topics and nutrition.

What is the cost of participating?

Surviving Strong is a non-profit with the goal of having fitness become more accessible for cancer survivors and everyone else touched by cancer.  To this end, our objective is that programs will be offered to members for free or at a minimal cost.  In addition, where there is a cost, consideration will be given to those that have financial need.

What is a Surviving Strong member?

Surviving Strong members fall into two groups: cancer survivors and supporters.  Membership is free to all cancer survivors and they also have have priority for our classes and workshops.

For everyone else touched indirectly by cancer we welcome your participation.  You are a vital part of our support network and everyone benefits by incorporating fitness into daily life.  Supporters have full membership access, including substantially subsidized or free speciality programs, in exchange for a minimum fundraising commitment of $250 per calendar year.  If you wish to join us, please click here.

Not sure about the fundraising?  We will provide you with various tools to help you raise funds from individuals and/or businesses.  If you are still not sure, you can still participate in programs as space allows, but you will be required to cover all costs for your participation.

How does program registration work?

Program registration can be made on our website.  Should you have any questions regarding an event, please email Programs@SurvivingStrong.org prior to registering.  If there is a fee associated with the program, payment must be made in advance and no later than one week prior to event.  If payment is not recieved by one week prior, an opportunity will be made to collect fee via online credit card processing.  There will be no cancellations with refund with less than 72 hours notice.  All program fees are non-refundable with less than 72 hours notice.  NOTE:  Some programs require deposits to outside vendors to secure the event; check information on these programs for a different reservation/refund policy that differs from this standard policy.

How can I help?

Thank you in advance!  There are a lot of ways to help Surviving Strong based upon your interest, skills, talents, resources and time.  Please contact us to chat further!

How is Surviving Strong different than Team In Training?

Team In Training is a wonderful organization that helps prepare any individual for participation in various athletic events, in the process raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Participants must meet minimum fundraising requirements which can be quite large.

Surviving Strong is about building fitness into a lifestyle for cancer survivors and supporters - right here, right now.  Funding does not go to research but rather helping people today in our own backyard.  Our members do often participate in athletic events (running or cycling races, triathlons, etc.)   This is optional, although encouraged as a show of strength and celebration of training success.

Is Surviving Strong affiliated with LiveStrong?

No.  We are a separate organization.  Our focus is very specific in helping individuals in the New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania area incorporate fitness as a lifestyle to improve their health and quality of life.  LiveStrong is a enormous corporation that has far reaching roles in research and in global cancer awareness.
